G ymnasts compete in technically demanding routines that can include turns, handstands and other balanced positions, all interspersed with the whirling of straightened legs and pointed feet in a circular motion, all the while maintaining good form and balance.

Vault Both men and women compete in the Vault, an exciting event which require s them to build up speed in a sprint before propelling themselves from a springboard , vaulting over a platform hands-first , complet ing mind-boggling flips and t wists , and finally land ing in a stable and upright position.

On the Gold Coast in Team England topped the medal table with a total of 16 medals including six golds, seven silvers and three bronzes. James is currently the Performance Director at British Gymnastics and leads the World Class Programme, that includes ten different gymnastic disciplines including four Olympic disciplines, fifty funded athletes and a performance staff of fifty-five.

James is also a member of the Performance Director Strategic Group that aims to support the wider Performance Director community and also serve as a critical friend to system partners including UK Sport, the British Olympic Association and the English Institute of Sport. James has led teams to successful performances at major championships including Welsh Boxing to multiple medal success at Glasgow for Team Wales.
