To our knowledge, this is the first report of an eversion injury resulting in dislocation of the ankle without fracture. Both patients had low energy trauma, predisposing ligamentous injuries, and recurrent sprains.
In the patient with lateral rotatory dislocation, medial malleolar hypoplasia was also a contributing factor. Both patients healed the presenting index injury with nonoperative treatment, whereas the lateral rotatory dislocation had a lateral ankle stabilization to prevent subsequent injury.
The purpose of this Because of the greater mechanical strength of the ankle article is to describe 2 different varieties of rotatory dislo- mortise and the surrounding ligaments, ankle dislocation is cations of the ankle after low-velocity trauma. In addition, a usually accompanied by malleolar fractures 1. It is even first reported injury of its type. Five cases of rotatory dislocation of the ankle have been reported in the literature 1, 3— 6. In these cases, the term Case Report 1: Medial Ankle Rotatory Dislocation rotatory refers to the motion of the talus in the frontal plane. Abstract Background Ankle dislocation without fracture is an extremely rare injury because it is usually accompanied by concomitant malleolar fractures from the anatomical and mechanical viewpoints. Case presentation We report the case of a year-old woman who was injured while playing basketball.
Immediate reduction and ligament repair using suture tape augmentation were performed. Background The occurrence of ankle dislocation without accompanying fractures is an extremely rare event [ 1 , 2 , 3 , 4 ]. Case presentation A year-old woman fell and injured her right ankle during contact play in basketball. Full size image. Surgical technique Reduction using external fixation Emergency washout and debridement were performed with primary closure of the wound, and reduction using an external fixator under lumbar anesthesia was performed on the night of the injury.
Discussion and conclusions Pure ankle dislocations are extremely rare. Availability of data and materials All data concerning the case are presented in the manuscript. References 1. Article Google Scholar 2. Article Google Scholar 3. Article Google Scholar 4.
